Emails are funny
Hey. Just something to note before today's blog. I'm only going to mention this one time... but check out some of the advertisements at the right of the screen. There's some cool stuff there that mostly has to do with the blog. All you have to do is click one of the links and check it out, it helps out both us and the advertisers. It would be appreciated!
Anyway, we're going to get back to more sports related stuff this week. Tonight the championship game of the NCAA tournament will be played between the University of North Carolina and Michigan State University. I have a general dislike for all things Tar Heels, so I'll be rooting for Tom Izzo's gang. Overall it was a pretty uneventful tournament in my opinion. The first couple of rounds lacked anything real exciting and there was no Cinderella team. Not to mention my bracket, put simply, was horrendous after the first three rounds. My bracket looked like something that just got out of a relationship with Chris Brown. The only good thing about the tournament was the Villanova-Pitt game for two reasons. First one being that it was one of the best finishes to a great game we've had in a long time. Scottie Reynolds gave me flashbacks to Tyus Edney in 1995. Second reason...you might remember this post I made not too long ago in which I recommended taking the prop bet of +500 for Villanova to win the East Region of the bracket. Let's just say I made a lot of money thanks to Scottie's heroics. I hope some of you did too.
I suppose that's all I have for you today. Look out for Rick and I's preview on the 2009 Major League Baseball season coming in the next couple of days. So without further adue, here is a little something from Rick. Enjoy.
Funny Emails
by Rick Welsch
Here is a back and forth email between me and Bonnie Hodgen, a lady in the Communications department here. This has not been altered in any way.
1st email telling me im not eligible for two classes.
Dear Mr. Welsch,
As you know, registration in Spring 2009 CMN courses was dependent on
your final grades in Fall 2008. Having reviewed your progress in the
Communication major, the grades you received in Fall 2008 CMN courses,
and the Spring 2009 courses that you have registered for, we find that
you have the following academic ineligibility problem(s) in your Spring
2009 enrollment:
You are registered for CMN 515 and CMN 772 but you have not
successfully completed the pre-requisite, CMN 455 with a final grade of
C or better.
If you feel this information is inaccurate, please notify me by January
14, 2009, or you will be deleted from the enrollment roster for CMN 772
& 515 so that an academically eligible student can be enrolled instead.
Webcat is open for enrollment in all 400-level CMN courses and for
non-CMN courses.
I will be happy to answer any questions or help you with any problems
regarding your Spring 2009 course registration.
Very best wishes for a productive semester in the new academic year.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Hodgdon
Academic/Student Assistant
Here is my response
Dear Mrs. Hodgdon,
CMN 455, the 400 I have left, is not open to registration as you had
previously said. I think I'm just gonna stay in the classes I
registered in. Even though I do not have the C I need for it to count,
I believe the C- I have taught me the same amount of information I
would need to take these classes as a C would have. I'll retake 455
next semester to get the C grade for graduation purposes. If this is
not an acceptable plan than please tell me and we can come up with
something where everyone is happy.
Mr. Welsch,
Unfortunately, receiving a C- is not the acceptable grade to move on to
a 500-level course. The pre-req for any CMN 500-level is passing that
same area 400-level with a grade of C or better. So I will be removing
you from both CMN 515 and CMN 772.
The pre-req for CMN 772 is all three intro courses (CMN 455, 456, 457)
with a grade of C or better, all three 500-levels with a grade of C- or
better and at least one 600-level.
Bonnie
It doesnt sound like Bonnie is still willing to answer any questions. She went from nice greetings and salutations to just names.
Mrs. Hodgdon,
I can't register for the 455 class. Webcat wont allow me, and since
the rest of my education depends on five more percentage points I was
wondering if you could enroll me into it in the same fashion you took
the other two classes away. This way I can get back on track next
semester with my major.
Frederick
I tried to give her a dose of her own medicine with the just names. I also made damn sure that she knew it was ridiculous that five percentage points should make me have to repeat a class.
Finally she says this.
Sorry Frederick, but CMN 455 is full so I am unable to register you in it.
Bonnie
Thank you Bonnie for literally nothing. Instead of helping me out and being concerned with my education she just rejects me and says no. What a bitch.
